A minister sent me an email saying that God had given her the name of a demon called DREAM CATCHER. This demon has the power that twists words in mid-air and makes the other person hear something that was not said. Then a spirit of dissension, strife, and accusation will manifest.
The next day I was standing in line after getting gasoline, and this BIG sign was hanging on the glass window that said,
DREAM
CATCHER
OR
MANDELLA
Assorted styles and colors, $2.99
Inside the package was a little card from the Elpaso trading post, Inc. that said,
"A very well known native American tradition is the presence of the "DREAM CATCHER" in their homes. Dreams flow in succession in the night. These dreams, though good or bad, succumb to the magic of the DREAM CATCHER. Good dreams know their way through the DREAM CATCHER never awakening the dreamer. Unpleasant dreams, however, become entangled in the weaving perishing in the first sign of a new morning. DREAM CATCHERS are hung by the children's bedside to make them feel warm and protected.
Make this DREAM CATCHER a part of your home and have pleasant dreams."
The object is Indian, with a netted hoop about four inches across. Hanging from it are two pieces of material with feathers attached.
You definitely do not want this thing in your home. Two other ministers told me they know of Christians with these things in their home.
The Mandella has its origin in the Indian War Shield. The design on each ring of the Mandella represents different ideas depending on various tribes. Each mandella is made of fur, feathers, wool, leather, beads. Colors are turquoise, brown, black, blue, red, tan.
The legend of the Dream Catcher is believed to have originated many generations ago in the Sioux Nation. The Dream Catcher was hung in the teepee, above someone sleeping, to guard against bad dreams. The Dream Catcher allowed good dreams to pass through and slide down the feathers onto the sleeper. But a bad dream would become entangled in the Dream Catcher, and in the morning the sun would melt it away. To this day many people believe in the power of the Dream Catcher. Others see the Dream Catcher as a beautiful decoration.
Get this out of your home and burn it. Cast OUT any demons that may have come into you or your home. Ask the Lord to forgive you for practicing witchcraft.

This is the most ignorant thing I have ever read. They are native americans, by the way.
Listen, you ethnocentric sheep, simply because someone believes in something beyond a narrow-minded, superstitious witch-hunting christian belief system doesn't mean it is consequently evil! Everything you described in your own article was a purely positive message towards the supposed power of a dreamcatcher. They are there to PROTECT you against evil. But then you go and treat it like some sort of evil talisman... How did you not know what a dreamcatcher was? Of course your minister knew what the hell a dreamcatcher is, which is only more upsetting that she seems to be encouraging some sort of awful zenophobia in whatever foolish church you and your hatred for culture slithered out from. If the minister told you tomorrow that the symbol of the cross is evil because it represents hatred against Christ, does that mean you and your bible thumping pals are going to round up your t-shirts, necklaces and wall hangings and make a fire pit? No. Why? Because that symbol is sacred to you and your people. So leave the dreamcatchers and other people's beliefs alone. There's nothing wrong with practicing a religion, it is just unfortunate that arrogant, misguided and blind hatred has to expell forth from it's establishment. Grow up, there are hundreds of religions that have existed prior to christianity...you have no right to think that your reliogion is somehow better, especially considering it's still very new in comparison. |

Sean I understand your frustration and can relate to how you would feel but there will come a day when all humanity will see God for whom he really is and every knee will bow and confess that Jesus Christ is lord not some dream catcher- Maybe there has been lots of other religions prior to Christianity but I asure you Christ has always been from the very beginng of time, you may ask how do I know this well I once was into all types of other religions and occult practises and I tell you I was destroyred by the practise of these religions, that ws untill I accepted that there is no other way and no other God than that of the bible,,,I have truly felt Gods healing freedom 'forgivveness' restoration in my own life..If you findf ths hard to belive I dare you to ask Jesus to reveal himself to you...HE WILL.

I rented the movie "Dreamcatcher" one night just out of curiosity. I wanted to get a more open mind toward this phenomenon.
I watched the movie and found it quite entertaining. I laughed at some scenes and at the end of the movie, I turned the DVD player off and the TV and sank into bed to get some sleep for the night. As I was dozing off, I heard two voices talking in a language I could not understand. I opened my eyes and looked around the slightly darkened room, but no one was there. I sank back into bed and dismissed the matter as maybe voices coming from passersby outside my window. A few seconds later, the side of my bed sank as if someone actually sat down beside me on the bed. The incessant chatter in another language continued, but there was no one visible in my room. Puzzled I got up out of bed. The Holy Spirit spoke to me and let me know that this encounter was a supernatural one. There were demonic spirits in my room talking and going as far as sitting on my bed beside me. The Holy Spirit went on to reveal that these evil spirits were given an "open door" invitation to enter my life, bedroom, etc. because I gave them permission to enter through entertainment such as "Dreamcatcher" movie. When you open your life to such demonic entertainment, you give the REAL demons the invitation to come in. This is not a joke. It is not a fairy tale. It is not something I made up. The Holy Spirit instructed me to pray and I began to pray in tongues and cast those demons out of there. A peace settled over the house as I took authority over the demonic spirits. I even had to take the Dreamcatcher movie OUTSIDE and the next day I took it back to the video rental store. For those of you who think demons are a joke and playing with them is "cute" and "fun" and "entertaining", think again. Demons are real and they are waiting on you to give them permission to enter your life by the things you do, say and participate in. I pray for Sean that God will open up his spiritual eyes so he will know the truth and the truth will set him free. |

I am a very deep spiritual person, both christian, Gnostic, and Metaphysical also New Age beliefs. There is a terrible misunderstanding and lost of translation here. No one seems to have much documentation on what i witnessed, so my story i see is important to share. Year 2004, 2005; I had a Dreamcatcher one year in college for the symbol of it and my family tree. I am part Cherokee Indian. I had a pretty and i see "commerical made" Dreamcatcher, not like the ancient made ones. I gave the dreamcatcher no thought, no extra anything, until it attracted darker spirits to me and did not perform the real theme of what a dreamcatcher is in Indian Legend. I see now, being wiser, the "Dreamcatcher is real" and a "connection" to the Spiritual world, commerical in theme or not. I see it does not matter how it is made, but how it is blessed. Like the Christian House Blessings, Dreamcatchers should be blessed before entering your home. Prayer, Holy water, Holy oil, whatever works in Blessing, should be used. They also should be given a destination or purpose. We can combine our Spirituality with the Dreamcatcher, they do have some power, but i learned it can be "controlled". If a dreamcatcher is left with no blessing or destination, the things can attract whatever, "unprotected". At the time, i was a live in Caregiver/Nursing Aide and took care of a family for 4 years for half of my week and weekend, in their haunted, evil spirited Condo/building. Those spirits traveled back to my own home and was attaching to my beautiful, golden dreamcatcher. So in that theme, yes; i had to throw the thing away; expensive as it was for me to purchase. In the future, they will be "protected and blessed", i do celebrate the indian traditions still, i feel it is my blood right to understand more and add modern wisdom for 2009.

I realize that you want to celebrate your heritage or Indian traditions, as i too am Indian, you can't control evil. The only one we should be seeking for guidance of any sort should be Jesus. As the bible say in the last day many will be deceived. That first experience should have been an eye opener. As Christian, being very spiritual I don't understand how you would want too combine your spirituality to anything, I guess it depends on what ever spirit in operation.
If God doesn't called it bless it cursed! |

I'm not saying anyone is wrong. Everyone has valide points, but i see a few strange things. One if you have any type of item that Jesus didn't use while he was on earth then you probably shouldn't say that if God doesn't call it blessed than it's cursed. Cause the Bible is what we base our opinions on as Christians and unless God Himself says "That's cursed don't do that" don't make generalizations. Generalizations leave out possiblities.
Another is we are each given things that God tells us personally we shouldn't have. For example I don't date because I believe God wants me not to but does that mean someone, who is a christian cannot, no. Everyone is different. Just like I study roman and greek mythology but a friend of mine feels that is wrong for her. That's fine because she's not me and I'm not her. So my advice on the Dreamcather: Pray about it. God will show you want he wants for you. |
